NL Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker player on the planet by many of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of one. His grandpa taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to learn everything he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the negative comments from other people annihilate his dream of becoming one of the best poker players on the planet.
He started competing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning experience and winning was not a common thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated a number of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to discipline and an undying love for poker. He states that he is picking up skills every day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. He admits to making mistakes in each session of poker and always aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some large tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a regular basis.
