No-Limit Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker player in the world by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to learn every little thing he could about the game. He routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the negative comments from others destroy his goal of being one of the greatest poker players on the planet.
Phil started playing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a learning experience and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he defeated a number of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an undying passion for poker. He says that he is learning every single day and is very abashed about his achievements. Phil knows he makes errors every single session of poker and always aspires to improve.
Although Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a normal basis.
