Net Big Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?

Gus Hansen enjoyed a marvelous year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only participant to achieve last table in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might recall one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen secured a massive pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the greatest players around the world. While competing in internet poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. Gus regularly competes in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus more often than not buys in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very poorly. He waits for a good hand and then pushes all in. I believe Gus is an excellent poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is flat broke, he has little or no reason to play at the game with the min buy-in.

Buying in for the min takes a majority of the expertise out of big stack poker. Gus is presumed to be 1 of the greatest poker players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy in for the full dollar value. I think television can alter our perception of the real world sometimes. The best players in the world could be players you have never heard of. Gus can be seen wagering on web poker on Full Tilt. He generally competes in high stakes omaha hi-low and texas hold’em. Gus has proven himself as a competition player. Can he back up his abilities in cash rounds?
