NL Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker competitor on the globe by quite a few of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to pickup whatever he could about the game. He would tell his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the adverse comments from others kill his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker players on the planet.

Phil began competing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a learning opportunity and winning was not a normal outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed many of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and a continuing passion for poker. Phil states that he is learning every day and is incredibly humble about his success. Phil admits to making blunders in each game of poker and always aspires to improve.

Although Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a normal basis.
