Internet Big Stakes Poker- Gus Hansen

[ English ]

Gus Hansen enjoyed an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only gambler to make it to the closing poker table in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Gus secured a big pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the best players around the world. While competing in online poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. Gus regularly plays in the 200/400 NL max buy in of $40, 000. Gus generally buys in for the min of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He waits for a decent hand and then pushes all-in. I believe Gus is an amazing poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is bankrupt, he has absolutely no reason to settle at the game with the minimum buy-in.

Playing for the minimum takes most of the ability out of big stack poker. Hansen is assumed to be one of the best poker players in the world but he cannot buy in for the total dollar value. I think tv can skew our view of the real world sometimes. The greatest players in the world may be guys you have never heard about. Gus can be found participating in net poker on Full Tilt. He usually competes in big stakes omaha hold’em and Holdem. Gus has proven himself as a competition player. Can he use his abilities in money games?
